Computer interpretation and special astrology 1980 In the 1980s, a new revolution begins to take place in astrology: computerized astrology. Many different companies turn out various kinds of computerized charts and interpretations, usually advertised in the Dell Horoscope and American Astrology magazines. Many of them also last only a few months to a few years. Raw computer language programs, such as BASIC, are also available for astrologers to write astrological programs to suit their personal needs. Even more of a boost to astrology is the large variety of delineation programs written for professional astrologers. The Age of the computer astrologer arrives. Robert Hand lays the foundation for yet a newer style of astrological writing: simpler coherent academic-like text which suits the new psychology-oriented form of astrology. The recession of the early 1980s forces many astrological enterprises to shut down. Much of the 1970's hippie-initiated occult businesses re-group under the movement of New Age. The emphasis turns away from cult-like lifestyles, magic, candles, charms, chalices, incense and bead necklaces to organic foods, health, vegetarianism, herbal remedies, crystal energies, bio-feedback, nutritional and practical astrology.
